Styles and trends change more often than the tide. Bell bottoms, mullets, and most recently, the man bun, were all once must-haves. Trends will come and go, but do you know what never goes out of fashion? Toned arms.
Toned arms are timeless. You’ll never look back at a photo of yourself and regret those sweet, sculpted guns you had in your 20s. Need a little motivation? Just turn on the Oscars this Sunday. Watching celebrities like Jada Pinkett Smith or Justin Theroux strut down the red carpet with their sculpted arms on display is bound to inspire you.
If you wanna give celebs a run for their money, there are a few things you need to remember.
Don’t be afraid of heavy weight
Strength training is the best, but certainly not the only way to get sexy, toned arms.
Make sure the exercises you’re doing involve a combination of pushing and pulling. Pushing weight away from your body will work your shoulders, chest, and triceps; while exercises that pull weight toward your body will work your back and biceps.
Pop quiz time! True or False: Lifting heavy weights will make you bulk up? False!
Many women fear that lifting heavy weights will make them “bulky.” This myth has been debunked by countless fitness experts, yet somehow this misconception lives on. Lifting heavier actually burns more calories, so don’t be afraid to stack on another plate or jump to the next set of dumbbells.
You don’t need a gym or equipment
You can still get strong, toned arms without a gym or equipment. Body weight exercises are great if you’re on-the-go or just want to switch up your routine.
Push-ups, planks, pull-ups, and tricep dips are great and can be done on the floor of your home or during your lunch break at the office. Try to do at least 3 rounds of 10-12 reps per exercise.
If group classes are more of your thing, opt for yoga or pilates. Not only will you strengthen and tone your arms, but your core will become stronger, too.
With a little time and determination, your friends will be asking for tickets to the gun show by summer.
