August 15 is National Relaxation Day, and even though we often place little emphasis, relaxation is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Whether you’re unwinding after the workday, unplugging on weekends, or taking a vacation, giving yourself time to relax without a to-do list will help you in the workplace. No matter what day of the year you read this, try one of these ways to celebrate national relaxation day in the workplace.

1. Essential Oil Blending

Certain essential oil blends are known to have anxiety-reducing properties, so you can find ways to incorporate them into your lifestyle. Add oils to a diffuser to lighten a room or rub on your temples or wrists. 6. Do Nothing

If all else fails, do nothing. Believe it or not, doing nothing is actually a thing. Niksen is a Dutch lifestyle technique that means “to do nothing, be idle or do something without use.” When practicing nothing, have a purpose. Be intentional with your time: listen to relaxing music while staring out the window, sit in a park, and just “be.”

7. Pet a Dog, Give a Hug

The simple acts of human (or dog) touch can release your feel-good hormones (serotonin, prolactin and oxytocin). Studies have shown that petting a dog for 15 minutes can lower stress, while human touch has the same effect. And we’ve already proven that dogs in the workplace have huge benefits.
